However, if you can’t make it into store, don’t worry. We’ve decanted our expert knowledge into five easy tips to make your Christmas go with a pop!
1 Don’t forget the fizz
Christmas is a celebration, and what celebration is complete without fizz. However, don’t go for something too heavy. Greet guests or family with a bottle of crisp, clean Prosecco, that’ll whet their appetite before the main event.
2 Pair smoked salmon with plenty of acidity!
With so many of us starting Christmas with a plate of smoked salmon blinis, it’s worth spending the time to find the right wine. Look for whites with plenty of acidity like Chablis that’ll cut through the fatty fish.
3 Make your turkey the main event
Christmas simply isn’t Christmas without turkey. So make sure you pair its weight, but lack of fat, with a full-bodied white or medium bodied red. When it comes to white wine, Chardonnay is the obvious candidate – especially Burgundy – but white Rioja and Rhône blends are also ideal. If your prefer reds go for Pinot Noir or Gamay.
4 Don’t forget your cold cuts
Since tucking into delicious cold cuts is one the best parts of everyone’s Christmas, here’s a tip on finding the perfect wine. Look for medium bodied reds like Rhône blends. Their pepper spice and raspberry notes will elevate yesterday’s leftovers to haute cuisine!
5 Cheese boards don’t just need reds
Whites are actually more versatile and will complement a far greater range of cheese. Try crisp Sauvignon Blanc with goats cheese or rich Viognier with something a little softer.
